Rouse @ UCLA - Meeting with Emmett Institute on Climate Change & the Environment, California

12 Nov 2018

On November 10, I met at UCLA Professor Cara Horowitz. Professor Cara is the Co-Executive Director of the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment Co-Director, UCLA Environmental Law Clinic. The Emmett Institute was founded as the first law school center in US focused on climate law and policy. We discussed our firm's research on the relationship between carbon markets such as the Cap-and-Trade program of California and its innovation effects in green tech. The debate about possible policies to initiate fundamental transitions towards low carbon pathways has been assigned a high priority on political and academic agendas worldwide, and information and support received from Cara is very helpful.

On a more personal note, I was in LA during Camp Fire and sadly witnessed the most destructive in the state’s history based on the number of structures destroyed. There is an undeniable link between climate change (years of drought and rising temperatures) and wildfire said Jerry Brown, Governor of California in response to President Donald Trump’s message on Twitter  that seemed to blame California government for the 2017 and 2018 wildfires that wiped out parts of Santa Rosa, Redding and now Paradise.

“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor,” Trump wrote.
